Indication
CALTOUX is a combination cough and cold preparation. Dextromethorphan suppresses the cough reflex; triprolidine is a first-generation antihistamine that relieves sneezing, runny nose, and allergic symptoms. Used for symptomatic relief of cough and cold symptoms in adults (tablet) and children (syrup).
Ingredients
- Dextromethorphan HBr 30 mg (tablet)
- Triprolidine HCl 2 mg (tablet)
- Dextromethorphan HBr 5 mg per 5 ml (syrup — paediatric)
Direction
Adults (tablet): 1 tablet every 6–8 hours as needed. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours. Children (syrup): dose by age/weight as directed on the label or by a doctor. Do not exceed recommended dose.
Side effects
- Drowsiness (triprolidine).
- Dry mouth.
- Dizziness.
- Nausea.
- Constipation.
Precautions
- Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping MAOI therapy.
- Causes drowsiness (triprolidine) — avoid driving or operating machinery.
- Do not use in children under 2 years without medical advice.
- Avoid concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
- Consult a doctor if cough persists beyond 7 days.
- Keep out of reach of children.
