CALTOUX Tablet: Dextromethorphan 30mg + Triprolidine 2mg; Syrup (child): Dextromethorphan 5mg/5ml

Indication

CALTOUX is a combination cough and cold preparation. Dextromethorphan suppresses the cough reflex; triprolidine is a first-generation antihistamine that relieves sneezing, runny nose, and allergic symptoms. Used for symptomatic relief of cough and cold symptoms in adults (tablet) and children (syrup).

Ingredients

• Dextromethorphan HBr 30 mg (tablet)
• Triprolidine HCl 2 mg (tablet)
• Dextromethorphan HBr 5 mg per 5 ml (syrup — paediatric)

Direction

Adults (tablet): 1 tablet every 6–8 hours as needed. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours. Children (syrup): dose by age/weight as directed on the label or by a doctor. Do not exceed recommended dose.

Side effects

• Drowsiness (triprolidine).
• Dry mouth.
• Dizziness.
• Nausea.
• Constipation.

Precautions

• Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping MAOI therapy.
• Causes drowsiness (triprolidine) — avoid driving or operating machinery.
• Do not use in children under 2 years without medical advice.
• Avoid concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
• Consult a doctor if cough persists beyond 7 days.
• Keep out of reach of children.
