Afrin Nasal Spray 0.05%

Indication

Afrin Nasal Spray contains oxymetazoline, a topical alpha-adrenergic decongestant used for the temporary relief of nasal congestion associated with the common cold, hay fever, sinusitis, and other upper respiratory allergies.

Ingredients

• Oxymetazoline HCl 0.05% (w/v)

Direction

Adults and children 6 years and over: 2–3 sprays in each nostril twice daily (morning and evening). Do not use more than twice daily. Do not use for more than 3 consecutive days — prolonged use may cause rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa). Children under 6 years: not recommended without medical advice.

Side effects

• Temporary burning

• Sneezing.
• Rebound nasal congestion with prolonged use.
• Headache.
• Increased blood pressure (with excessive use).
• Palpitations (with excessive use).

Precautions

• Do not use for more than 3 days — risk of rebound nasal congestion with prolonged use.
• Do not use in children under 6 years without medical supervision.
• Use with caution in patients with hypertension

• hyperthyroidism
• or diabetes.
• Avoid sharing the nasal spray applicator with others.
• Not for use in patients taking MAO inhibitors.
• Keep out of reach of children.
