Indication
Afrin Nasal Spray contains oxymetazoline, a topical alpha-adrenergic decongestant used for the temporary relief of nasal congestion associated with the common cold, hay fever, sinusitis, and other upper respiratory allergies.
Ingredients
- Oxymetazoline HCl 0.05% (w/v)
Direction
Adults and children 6 years and over: 2–3 sprays in each nostril twice daily (morning and evening). Do not use more than twice daily. Do not use for more than 3 consecutive days — prolonged use may cause rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa). Children under 6 years: not recommended without medical advice.
Side effects
- Temporary burning
- stinging
- or dryness in the nose.
- Sneezing.
- Rebound nasal congestion with prolonged use.
- Headache.
- Increased blood pressure (with excessive use).
- Palpitations (with excessive use).
Precautions
- Do not use for more than 3 days — risk of rebound nasal congestion with prolonged use.
- Do not use in children under 6 years without medical supervision.
- Use with caution in patients with hypertension
- heart disease
- hyperthyroidism
- or diabetes.
- Avoid sharing the nasal spray applicator with others.
- Not for use in patients taking MAO inhibitors.
- Keep out of reach of children.
