Colodium 2mg Loperamide Hydrochloride 2mg

Indication

Colodium 2 mg contains loperamide, an antidiarrhoeal agent used for symptomatic relief of acute non-specific diarrhoea and chronic diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease, and to reduce ileostomy output.

Ingredients

• Loperamide Hydrochloride 2 mg

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 4 mg (2 capsules), then 2 mg after each loose stool. Maximum 16 mg per day. Stop when normal bowel movements resume or after 48 hours. Children over 8 years: 2 mg after each loose stool; maximum 6 mg/day.

Side effects

• Constipation.
• Abdominal cramping.
• Nausea.
• Dizziness.
• Dry mouth.
• Skin rash (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use in dysentery or bloody diarrhoea with high fever.
• Avoid in acute colitis or bowel obstruction.
• Seek medical attention if diarrhoea not improved within 48 hours.
• Ensure rehydration.
• Not for use in children under 6 years.
• Use with caution in hepatic impairment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
