Cimetidine 400mg Creamet 400mg

Indication

Cimetidine 400 mg is an H2-receptor antagonist used to treat and prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), and conditions of pathological hypersecretion (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). It reduces gastric acid secretion.

Ingredients

• Cimetidine 400 mg

Direction

Adults: 400 mg twice daily (morning and at bedtime) or 400–800 mg at bedtime. Duodenal ulcer: 400 mg twice daily for 4–8 weeks, or 800 mg at bedtime. GORD: 400 mg four times daily for 4–8 weeks. Children: dose by body weight — consult a doctor.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea.
• Dizziness.
• Headache.
• Fatigue.
• Gynaecomastia (with prolonged use).
• Elevated serum creatinine (mild
• transient).
• Confusion or mental disturbances (rare
• especially in elderly or renally impaired patients).

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — dose reduction required.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• Cimetidine inhibits CYP450 enzymes — significant interactions with warfarin
• phenytoin
• theophylline
• tricyclic antidepressants
• and many others.
• May cause gynaecomastia or sexual dysfunction with prolonged use.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation in patients with peptic ulcer — taper dose if needed.
• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
