Indication
CEPHALEX-MS 500 (Cefalexin 500 mg) is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media caused by susceptible organisms.
Ingredients
- Cefalexin 500 mg
Direction
Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours, or 500 mg every 12 hours for mild to moderate infections. Severe infections: up to 1–1.5 g every 6 hours. Children: 25–50 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6–8 hours. Take with or without food.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea
- nausea
- vomiting
- abdominal discomfort.
- Rash
- urticaria.
- Headache
- dizziness.
- Pseudomembranous colitis (rare — if severe diarrhoea occurs
- discontinue and seek medical advice).
- Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefalexin or other cephalosporins.
- Use with caution in patients with known penicillin allergy (cross
- reactivity possible).
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
- dose adjustment required.
- Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve.
- May interact with probenecid and anticoagulants.
- Keep out of reach of children.
