Zita Azithromycin USP 200mg/5ml

Indication

Zita Azithromycin USP Suspension (200 mg/5 mL) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, and other infections caused by susceptible organisms in children and adults.

Ingredients

• Azithromycin 200 mg/5 mL (as dry powder for oral suspension)

Direction

Children (by body weight): 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or 10 mg/kg on day 1 then 5 mg/kg on days 2–5, as directed by a physician. Adults: 500 mg once daily (use tablet formulation). Reconstitute powder as directed and shake well before each use. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• vomiting.
• Headache.
• QT prolongation (rare).
• Elevated liver enzymes.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or macrolide antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• QT prolongation risk — avoid in patients taking other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Complete the full course of treatment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
