Indication
DIAMIDE 2 mg (Glimepiride) is a third-generation sulphonylurea oral antidiabetic agent used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood glucose levels.
Ingredients
- Glimepiride 2 mg
Direction
Adults: Initial dose 1 mg once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Dose may be increased by 1 mg every 1–2 weeks up to 4 mg/day (occasionally 6–8 mg/day under medical supervision). Take as a single dose with the first main meal.
Side effects
- Hypoglycaemia (most common and serious).
- Nausea
- vomiting.
- Weight gain.
- Hypersensitivity reactions including skin reactions.
- Elevated liver enzymes (rare).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes
- diabetic ketoacidosis
- or severe renal/hepatic impairment.
- Risk of hypoglycaemia — especially with missed meals
- excessive exercise
- or alcohol.
- Educate patient to recognise and manage hypoglycaemia symptoms.
- May cause weight gain.
- Avoid in pregnancy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
