Indication
Laroxyl 25 mg (Amitriptyline) is a tricyclic antidepressant used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, neuropathic pain, migraine prophylaxis, and nocturnal enuresis in children.
Ingredients
- Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 25 mg
Direction
Adults (depression): Initially 25–75 mg daily in divided doses or as a single dose at bedtime. Dose may be increased to 150–200 mg per day under medical supervision. Elderly: Start at lower doses (10–25 mg at night). For neuropathic pain: 10–75 mg at night. Take as directed by prescriber.
Side effects
- Drowsiness
- sedation
- dizziness.
- Dry mouth
- blurred vision
- constipation
- urinary retention (anticholinergic effects).
- Tachycardia
- palpitations.
- Weight gain.
- Postural hypotension.
- Confusion (especially in elderly).
- Rare: serious cardiac arrhythmias
- particularly in overdose.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in recent myocardial infarction
- arrhythmias
- and severe hepatic impairment.
- Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors — allow at least 14 days between treatments.
- Risk of QT prolongation and cardiac arrhythmias.
- Use with caution in patients with epilepsy
- glaucoma
- urinary retention
- or thyroid disease.
- May impair alertness — avoid driving or operating machinery.
- Risk of suicidal ideation in early treatment
- especially in young adults — monitor closely.
- Do not stop abruptly — taper gradually.
- Use with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
