Lostad Plus 50/12.5mg

Indication

Lostad Plus (Losartan 50 mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg) is a combination antihypertensive used for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults who are not adequately controlled on either component alone.

Ingredients

• Losartan Potassium 50 mg
• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Direction

Adults: One tablet once daily. May be taken with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Adjust dose as directed by physician.

Side effects

• Dizziness
• headache.
• Hypotension (low blood pressure).
• Hypokalaemia (low potassium) from hydrochlorothiazide.
• Increased serum creatinine and urea.
• Fatigue
• asthenia.
• Rare: angioedema — seek immediate medical attention.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters) — can cause fetal harm.
• Contraindicated in severe renal or hepatic impairment
• anuria
• or hypersensitivity to sulfonamides.
• Monitor electrolytes (potassium
• sodium)
• renal function
• and blood pressure regularly.
• Risk of hyperkalaemia — avoid concurrent use of potassium supplements or potassium
• sparing diuretics.
• May cause dizziness or postural hypotension
• especially on initiation.
• Use with caution in diabetes (HCT may affect glycaemic control).
• Avoid in bilateral renal artery stenosis.
