DIABETMIN Retard 850mg 1000mg

Indication

DIABETMIN Retard 850 mg (Metformin HCl) is an oral biguanide antidiabetic agent used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight patients, when diet and exercise are insufficient. The 'Retard' (extended-release) formulation provides sustained release for improved tolerability.

Ingredients

• Metformin Hydrochloride 850 mg

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 500–850 mg once daily with the evening meal. Dose may be increased gradually to a maximum of 2000 mg per day. Take with food. Swallow whole — do not crush or chew extended-release tablets.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain (especially initially
• usually transient).
• Metallic taste.
• Rare: lactic acidosis (serious).
• Long
• term: reduced vitamin B12 absorption.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
• Contraindicated in hepatic impairment
• heart failure
• or respiratory failure.
• Withhold before and 48 hours after iodinated contrast media.
• Risk of lactic acidosis — discontinue immediately if suspected.
• Monitor renal function regularly.
• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
• Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
