CEFIWEL-200DT 200mg

Indication

CEFIWEL-200DT is a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including uncomplicated urinary tract infections, acute otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, and gonorrhoea.

Ingredients

• Cefixime 200 mg (dispersible tablet)

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years or over 50 kg: 200–400 mg per day as a single dose or divided into two doses every 12 hours. Children under 12 years (under 50 kg): 8 mg/kg/day in one or two divided doses. Dispersible tablets should be dissolved in water before swallowing. Complete the full prescribed course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea (most common).
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Abdominal pain.
• Headache.
• Skin rash.
• Elevated liver enzymes (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins (cross
• allergy possible).
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — dose reduction may be required.
• Discontinue and seek medical advice if severe allergic reaction (rash
• difficulty breathing) occurs.
• Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with resistant organisms.
• Inform your doctor of all other medications being taken.
• Keep out of reach of children.
