Indication

Amitriptyline 25 mg is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used for the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, neuropathic pain, migraine prophylaxis, and enuresis (bedwetting) in children.

Ingredients
  • Amitriptyline hydrochloride 25 mg
Direction

Adults (depression): Initially 25 mg two to three times daily, or 75 mg at night. Dose may be increased gradually under medical supervision to a maximum of 150 mg/day. Elderly and adolescents: 25–50 mg/day in divided doses. Always follow physician instructions. Do not stop suddenly — taper dose.

Side effects
  • Dry mouth.
  • Constipation.
  • Urinary retention.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Sedation and drowsiness.
  • Orthostatic hypotension (dizziness on standing).
  • Weight gain.
  • Cardiac arrhythmia (at higher doses).
  • Confusion (especially in elderly).
Precautions
  • Do not use in patients with recent myocardial infarction or heart arrhythmias.
  • Do not use concurrently with MAO inhibitors.
  • Use with extreme caution in elderly — increased risk of falls and confusion.
  • May cause suicidal thoughts in children and young adults at initiation — monitor closely.
  • Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants during treatment.
  • May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
  • Do not stop treatment suddenly.
  • Use with caution in patients with glaucoma
