Itraconazole Capsules BP 100mg 100mg

Indication

Itraconazole 100 mg capsules are a triazole antifungal used to treat systemic and superficial fungal infections including aspergillosis, candidiasis, cryptococcosis (including meningitis), histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, onychomycosis (nail fungus), tinea versicolor, and tinea corporis.

Ingredients

• Itraconazole 100 mg

Direction

Onychomycosis (nails): 200 mg once daily for 3 months, or pulse therapy 200 mg twice daily for 1 week per month for 3 months. Systemic infections: 100–400 mg once daily depending on indication. Take capsules immediately after a full meal for optimal absorption.

Side effects

• Nausea and vomiting.
• Abdominal pain.
• Headache.
• Elevated liver enzymes (hepatotoxicity — rare but serious).
• Oedema.
• Hypertension.
• Skin rash.
• Hypokalaemia (low potassium).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with congestive heart failure or a history of heart failure.
• Multiple serious drug interactions — consult pharmacist or doctor before use with other medications.
• Do not use in pregnancy (category D) — effective contraception required.
• Monitor liver function tests with prolonged use.
• Do not use if allergic to itraconazole or other azole antifungals.
• Contraindicated with many drugs including astemizole

• pimozide
• quinidine
• ergot alkaloids
• simvastatin
• and lovastatin.
• Keep out of reach of children.
