Nifuroxazide Syrup (Intestinal Antibacterial) 5mL per dose

Indication

Nifuroxazide syrup is an intestinal antibacterial (nitrofuran derivative) used for the treatment of acute diarrhoea of bacterial origin in adults and children. It acts locally in the gut without systemic absorption.

Ingredients

• Nifuroxazide 200 mg per 5 mL oral suspension

Direction

Adults: 15 mL (600 mg) four times daily. Children 6 months–6 years: 5 mL (200 mg) three times daily. Children 6 years and over: 10 mL (400 mg) three times daily. Duration: usually 5–7 days. Shake well before use.

Side effects

• Nausea (rare).
• Vomiting (rare).
• Allergic skin reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Not recommended for neonates under 1 month.
• Do not use if severe or bloody diarrhoea is present — seek medical care.
• Maintain adequate hydration during treatment.
• Do not use beyond 7 days without medical advice.
• Keep out of reach of children.
