Prosan 50mg (Losartan Potassium USP 50mg) 50mg

Indication

Prosan 50 mg (Losartan Potassium) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and slow the progression of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria.

Ingredients

• Losartan potassium 50 mg

Direction

Adults (hypertension): 50 mg once daily. Dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily if needed. Patients on diuretics or with intravascular volume depletion: start with 25 mg once daily. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Dizziness.
• Hyperkalaemia (high potassium).
• Hypotension (low blood pressure).
• Renal impairment (in susceptible patients).
• Upper respiratory tract infection.
• Fatigue.
• Back pain.
• Angioedema (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use in pregnancy (second and third trimesters) — can cause foetal harm or death.
• Do not use if allergic to losartan or other ARBs.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
• Monitor potassium levels — risk of hyperkalaemia
• especially with potassium
• sparing diuretics.
• Avoid concurrent use with ACE inhibitors and aliskiren (dual RAAS blockade).
• May cause symptomatic hypotension in volume
• depleted patients.
• Keep out of reach of children.
