Indication
Salbutamol tablets are used for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm associated with asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and other bronchospastic conditions. Also used to manage premature labour (under specialist supervision).
Ingredients
- Salbutamol (as sulfate) 2 mg
Direction
Adults: 2–4 mg (1–2 tablets of 2 mg) three or four times daily. Children (2–6 years): 1–2 mg three or four times daily. Children (6–12 years): 2 mg three or four times daily. Dose may be increased to a maximum of 8 mg three or four times daily in adults if needed. Take with or without food.
Side effects
- Tremor (particularly of the hands).
- Headache.
- Tachycardia (fast heartbeat) and palpitations.
- Muscle cramps.
- Peripheral vasodilation.
- Hypokalaemia at high doses.
- Rarely: hypersensitivity reactions
- paradoxical bronchospasm.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients hypersensitive to salbutamol or any excipients.
- Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease
- hypertension
- hyperthyroidism
- or diabetes mellitus.
- May cause hypokalaemia
- especially at high doses
- monitor potassium levels.
- Avoid concurrent use with other beta
- agonists or MAO inhibitors.
- Use with caution in patients taking digoxin or diuretics.
- Not for use in patients with threatened abortion during first or second trimester.
- Keep out of reach of children.
