Carbophos (activated charcoal) is used as an adjunct in the treatment of acute poisoning, overdose, and drug intoxication. It adsorbs toxins in the gastrointestinal tract to prevent systemic absorption. It may also be used for symptomatic relief of intestinal gas and flatulence.
For poisoning in adults: 50–100 g as a single dose mixed with water. For repeated dosing: 25–50 g every 4–6 hours as directed by a physician. For flatulence: as directed. Always follow physician or Poison Control Centre instructions for acute poisoning.
