Indication
Caltoux (Carbocisteine) is a mucolytic agent used to facilitate expectoration by reducing the viscosity of bronchial secretions in respiratory conditions such as chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, and mucus-hypersecretion states.
Ingredients
- Carbocisteine 375 mg per 5 mL syrup (or as labelled)
Direction
Adults: 15 mL (750 mg) 3 times daily, reducing to 10 mL (500 mg) 3 times daily when improvement occurs. Children 2–5 years: 2.5 mL (125 mg) 4 times daily; 5–12 years: 5 mL (250 mg) 3 times daily. Use as directed by physician.
Side effects
- Nausea
- stomach upset.
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (rare
- with history of peptic ulcer).
- Rare: allergic reactions
- rash.
Precautions
- Not recommended in patients with active peptic ulcer.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of peptic ulceration.
- Safety in pregnancy not firmly established
- consult a physician.
- Keep out of reach of children.
