Indication
Mediclovir (Acyclovir cream 5%) is an antiviral agent used topically for the treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections of the skin, including cold sores (herpes labialis) and genital herpes lesions.
Ingredients
- Acyclovir 50 mg/g (5%) cream
Direction
Apply to the affected area 5 times daily at approximately 4-hour intervals for 5 days. Begin treatment as early as possible when symptoms first appear (prodrome stage). Wash hands before and after application.
Side effects
- Mild burning
- stinging
- or itching at application site.
- Rare: allergic contact dermatitis.
Precautions
- For external use only
- avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
- Does not cure herpes infection but reduces duration and severity of outbreaks.
- Avoid sexual contact during active genital herpes lesions.
- Keep out of reach of children.
