Indication
Treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections.
Ingredients
- Sulfamethoxazole 200mg
- Trimethoprim 40mg
Direction
Adults: 2 tablets (or 10 ml suspension) twice daily. Children: dose adjusted by weight as directed by a physician. Complete the full course of treatment.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Skin rash (may be severe — discontinue if rash develops).
- Photosensitivity.
- Bone marrow suppression with prolonged use.
- Hyperkalemia.
- Crystalluria (ensure adequate hydration).
- Stevens
- Johnson syndrome (rare but serious).
Precautions
- Not for use in patients with known sulfonamide or trimethoprim allergy.
- Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
- Ensure adequate fluid intake during treatment.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure (photosensitivity risk).
- Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy or at term.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Blood disorders may occur — report unusual bruising
- sore throat
- or fever.
