Cortim p.p.m 200mg/40mg

Indication

Treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections.

Ingredients

• Sulfamethoxazole 200mg
• Trimethoprim 40mg

Direction

Adults: 2 tablets (or 10 ml suspension) twice daily. Children: dose adjusted by weight as directed by a physician. Complete the full course of treatment.

Side effects

• Nausea and vomiting.
• Skin rash (may be severe — discontinue if rash develops).
• Photosensitivity.
• Bone marrow suppression with prolonged use.
• Hyperkalemia.
• Crystalluria (ensure adequate hydration).
• Stevens
• Johnson syndrome (rare but serious).

Precautions

• Not for use in patients with known sulfonamide or trimethoprim allergy.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
• Ensure adequate fluid intake during treatment.
• Avoid prolonged sun exposure (photosensitivity risk).
• Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy or at term.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Blood disorders may occur — report unusual bruising
