Indication
Treatment of serious bacterial infections including septicaemia, meningitis, abdominal infections, bone and joint infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhoea
Ingredients
- Ceftriaxone 1g (as Ceftriaxone Sodium)
Direction
Adults: 1-2g once daily by IM or IV injection. Severe infections: up to 4g/day. Children: 20-80mg/kg/day. Reconstitute with sterile water or lidocaine for IM injection.
Side effects
- Injection site pain
- diarrhoea
- nausea
- rash
- eosinophilia
- elevated liver enzymes
- biliary sludge (reversible)
Precautions
- Contraindicated in cephalosporin allergy. Do not mix with calcium
- containing IV solutions. Use with caution in penicillin allergy
- renal/hepatic impairment. Not for neonates with hyperbilirubinaemia.
