Indication
Treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, otitis media, traveler's diarrhea, Pneumocystis pneumonia, and other susceptible bacterial infections
Ingredients
- Sulfamethoxazole 800mg
- Trimethoprim 160mg
Direction
Adults: 1 DS tablet (800/160mg) every 12 hours. Duration varies by infection (5-14 days). Take with a full glass of water. May be taken with food.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- loss of appetite
- skin rash
- photosensitivity. Serious: Stevens
- Johnson syndrome
- blood dyscrasias
- hepatotoxicity
- renal toxicity
Precautions
- Contraindicated in sulfonamide allergy
- severe hepatic/renal impairment
- megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency. Maintain adequate fluid intake. Avoid sun exposure. Not in pregnancy/breastfeeding.
