Indication

Treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, otitis media, traveler's diarrhea, Pneumocystis pneumonia, and other susceptible bacterial infections

Ingredients

Sulfamethoxazole 800mg
Trimethoprim 160mg

Direction

Adults: 1 DS tablet (800/160mg) every 12 hours. Duration varies by infection (5-14 days). Take with a full glass of water. May be taken with food.

Side effects

Nausea
vomiting
loss of appetite
skin rash
photosensitivity. Serious: Stevens
Johnson syndrome
blood dyscrasias
hepatotoxicity
renal toxicity

Precautions

Contraindicated in sulfonamide allergy
severe hepatic/renal impairment
megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency. Maintain adequate fluid intake. Avoid sun exposure. Not in pregnancy/breastfeeding.
