Indication
Chronic gout; hyperuricemia associated with kidney stones; prevention of uric acid and calcium oxalate calculi; management of hyperuricemia from cancer chemotherapy
Ingredients
- Allopurinol 100mg
Direction
Adults: Initial dose 100mg daily after food. Increase by 100mg every 2-4 weeks until desired serum urate level achieved. Usual maintenance: 200-300mg daily. Maximum: 800mg/day. Take after meals with plenty of water.
Side effects
- Skin rash (discontinue immediately if occurs)
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- headache
- drowsiness
- altered liver function
- rare: Stevens
- Johnson syndrome
Precautions
- Discontinue immediately at first sign of skin rash. Dose adjustment in renal impairment. Maintain adequate fluid intake. May trigger acute gout attacks initially
- co
- prescribe colchicine or NSAID for first few months.
