Indication

Antiviral - Herpes Simplex treatment

Ingredients

• Aciclovir 400mg

Direction

Suppression: 400mg twice daily. Acute: 200mg 5 times daily for 5-10 days. Take with water.

Side effects

• Nausea
• headache
• diarrhea. Rare: renal impairment with IV use.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aciclovir
• valaciclovir
• or any excipients.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
• dose adjustment required.
• Ensure adequate hydration during treatment to reduce risk of renal toxicity.
• Use with caution in elderly patients and those with neurological complications.
• May interact with nephrotoxic drugs
• concurrent use should be monitored.
• Probenecid and cimetidine can increase aciclovir plasma levels.
• Not recommended in pregnancy unless benefit outweighs risk
• consult a doctor.
