Indication
Relief of cough and chest congestion due to cold, bronchitis
Ingredients
- Guaifenesin 100mg + Dextromethorphan HBr 10mg per 5ml
Direction
Children 6-12: 5ml every 4 hours. Adults: 10ml every 4 hours. Max 6 doses/24h.
Side effects
- Drowsiness
- nausea
- dizziness
- stomach upset.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in children under 2 years without specific medical advice
- dextromethorphan is generally not recommended in children under 4 years.
- Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs — risk of serotonin syndrome.
- Avoid use with sedatives
- antihistamines
- or alcohol due to additive CNS depressant effects.
- Do not use to suppress productive cough
- seek medical advice if cough is persistent
- accompanied by fever
- rash
- or headache.
- Use with caution in patients with asthma or chronic respiratory conditions.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- Dextromethorphan has abuse potential at high doses.
- Consult a doctor before use in patients taking serotonergic drugs (SSRIs
- SNRIs
- triptans) due to risk of serotonin syndrome.
- Keep out of reach of children.
