Indication
Glucophage 1000 mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary control and exercise alone are insufficient. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents including insulin.
Ingredients
- Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg
Direction
Take Glucophage tablets orally with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. The dose is adjusted gradually based on blood glucose monitoring. Swallow whole with water. Usual starting dose is 500 mg or 850 mg twice or three times daily. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea (especially at start of treatment)
- Abdominal pain or discomfort
- Loss of appetite
- Metallic taste
- Rare: lactic acidosis (medical emergency — seek immediate care)
Precautions
- Contraindicated in renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73m²)
- Withhold before and 48 hours after iodinated contrast media
- Contraindicated in conditions associated with hypoxia (e.g.
- heart or respiratory failure)
- Monitor renal function before and during treatment
- Avoid excessive alcohol intake
- Keep out of reach of children
- Consult a doctor before use
