Indication
Treatment of peptic ulcer and GERD via IV injection
Ingredients
- Esomeprazole 40mg
Direction
Intravenous use only, administered by a healthcare professional. Adults: 40 mg by intravenous injection (over at least 3 minutes) or intravenous infusion (in 100 ml 0.9% sodium chloride over 10β30 minutes) once daily. Reconstitute powder for injection with 5 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution before further dilution. Duration of IV therapy is typically limited; switch to oral esomeprazole as soon as clinically appropriate.
Side effects
- Headache.
- Abdominal pain
- diarrhoea
- flatulence
- nausea
- and vomiting.
- Injection site reactions (thrombophlebitis with IV use).
- Hypomagnesaemia with prolonged use.
- Rarely: Stevens
- Johnson syndrome
- toxic epidermal necrolysis.
- Rarely: hepatitis
- liver failure.
Precautions
- For hospital or clinical use only
- not for self
- administration.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole
- other proton pump inhibitors
- or any excipient.
- Concomitant use with atazanavir or nelfinavir is not recommended.
- Long
- term use may reduce absorption of vitamin B12
- magnesium
- and calcium.
- May increase risk of Clostridioides difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) has been reported
- discontinue if skin lesions appear.
- Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment (maximum 20 mg/day).
- Keep out of reach of children.
