Indication
Prevention of nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery
Ingredients
- Ondansetron 4mg
Direction
Oral use only. Shake well before use. Adults: 8 mg (10 ml) up to 3 times daily. Children 4β11 years: 4 mg (5 ml) up to 3 times daily. Children 6 monthsβ3 years: 2 mg (2.5 ml) up to 3 times daily. Administer approximately 30 minutes before meals or on an empty stomach. Duration of treatment typically does not exceed 5 days unless directed by a physician.
Side effects
- Headache.
- Constipation.
- Flushing and warmth sensations.
- QT prolongation and rarely arrhythmias.
- Transient increases in liver enzymes.
- Rarely: hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ondansetron or other 5
- HT3 receptor antagonists.
- May cause QT
- interval prolongation
- use with caution in patients with known cardiac arrhythmias
- electrolyte disturbances
- or concomitant QT
- prolonging medications.
- Avoid use in patients with congenital long QT syndrome.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment (reduce dose).
- Serotonin syndrome has been reported when used with other serotonergic agents.
- Keep out of reach of children.
