Indication

Antibiotic for bacterial infections in children

Ingredients

• Cefixime 100mg

Direction

Oral use only. Reconstitute dry powder with water per label instructions before dispensing. Shake well before each use. Adults and children over 40 kg: 200–400 mg daily (as a single dose or divided into 2 doses). Children 6 months–12 years (weight-based): 8 mg/kg/day as a single daily dose or divided every 12 hours (maximum 400 mg/day). With 100 mg/5 ml suspension: 10 kg → 5 ml once daily; 20 kg → 10 ml once daily. Take with or without food. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• loose stools (common).
• Nausea and abdominal pain.
• Skin rash and urticaria.
• Rarely: serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis.
• Elevated liver enzymes (transient).
• Pseudomembranous colitis (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefixime or other cephalosporins.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy (cross
• reactivity possible).
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment

• Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non
• susceptible organisms.
• Clostridioides difficile
• associated diarrhoea (antibiotic
• associated colitis) has been reported.
• Keep out of reach of children.
