Topical antiviral for the treatment of Herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and lips, including initial and recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores).

Ingredients

Aciclovir BP 5% w/w

Direction

Apply to the affected area 5 times daily at approximately 4-hourly intervals, omitting the night-time application. Treatment should begin as early as possible at the first sign of infection (tingling, itching, redness). Continue for at least 5 days; if healing is not complete, treatment may continue for up to 10 days. Use as directed by the physician.

Transient burning or stinging at the application site
Mild drying or flaking of the skin
Pruritus (itching)
Erythema (redness)
Contact dermatitis (rare)

Precautions

For external use only
Avoid contact with eyes
inside the mouth or nose
or on the genitals unless directed by a physician
Wash hands before and after applying the cream
Do not apply to mucous membranes unless directed
Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding
consult a physician
Keep out of reach of children
