Indication
Amlodipine is a calcium-channel blocker used in the management of hypertension and for the prophylaxis of chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina. It lowers blood pressure by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and reducing peripheral vascular resistance.
Ingredients
- Amlodipine Besilate BP equivalent to Amlodipine 10 mg
Direction
Adults: Usual initial dose 5 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily according to the patient's response. For hypertension and angina, the usual maintenance dose is 5-10 mg once daily. Use as directed by the physician. May be taken with or without food.
Side effects
- Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling)
- Headache
- Flushing
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Palpitations
- Nausea or abdominal pain
- Gingival hyperplasia (rare)
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other dihydropyridines
- Contraindicated in severe hypotension
- shock
- and severe aortic stenosis
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
- dose titration may be needed
- Use with caution in patients with heart failure
- Pregnancy and lactation: use only if the potential benefit justifies the risk
- Avoid concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors unless under medical supervision
- Keep out of the reach of children
