Paracetamol EPHAC 100 mg

Indication

Paracetamol is used for the relief of mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. The 100 mg strength is primarily used in paediatric patients.

Direction

Children: approximately 10–15 mg/kg every 4–6 hours as needed; do not exceed 5 doses in 24 hours. Adults: usual dose 500–1000 mg every 4–6 hours (multiple tablets may be required). Always follow prescriber instructions for paediatric dosing.

Side effects

• Rare: allergic reactions (rash
• urticaria
• angioedema).
• Very rare: serious skin reactions (Stevens
• Johnson syndrome
• toxic epidermal necrolysis).
• Liver toxicity with overdose.
• Blood dyscrasias (thrombocytopenia
• agranulocytosis) — very rare.

Precautions

• Do not exceed the recommended dose
• paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage.
• Avoid use with other paracetamol
• containing products.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
• renal impairment
• or chronic alcohol use.
• Seek medical advice before use in patients on warfarin or other anticoagulants.
• Consult a doctor if symptoms persist for more than 3 days (fever) or 5 days (pain).
• Keep out of reach of children.
