Indication
- Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma - Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction - Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis
Ingredients
- Montelukast 4 mg
Direction
Usually one 4 mg dose once daily in the evening for children aged 2-5 years (chewable tablet or granules). Take regularly even when symptom-free; granules may be given directly or mixed with soft food.
Side effects
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Upper respiratory tract infection
- Mood or behaviour changes (e.g. irritability
- sleep disturbance)
- Rarely
- allergic reactions
Precautions
- Not for relief of acute asthma attacks
- keep a rescue inhaler available
- Report neuropsychiatric changes such as mood or behaviour problems
- Chewable tablets contain aspartame (phenylalanine source)
- Use with caution in known hypersensitivity to montelukast
