Indication

- Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma - Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction - Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis

Ingredients

• Montelukast 4 mg

Direction

Usually one 4 mg dose once daily in the evening for children aged 2-5 years (chewable tablet or granules). Take regularly even when symptom-free; granules may be given directly or mixed with soft food.

Side effects

• Headache
• Abdominal pain
• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Mood or behaviour changes (e.g. irritability
• sleep disturbance)
• Rarely
• allergic reactions

Precautions

• Not for relief of acute asthma attacks
• keep a rescue inhaler available
• Report neuropsychiatric changes such as mood or behaviour problems
• Chewable tablets contain aspartame (phenylalanine source)
• Use with caution in known hypersensitivity to montelukast
