Indication

Combination used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels; atenolol is a beta-blocker that slows heart rate and reduces cardiac workload.

Ingredients
  • Amlodipine Besilate
  • Atenolol
Direction

Adults: One tablet (Amlodipine 5 mg / Atenolol 50 mg) once daily, or as directed by a physician. Take with or without food, at the same time each day. Do not stop abruptly.

Side effects
  • Amlodipine component: oedema
  • flushing
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • palpitations.
  • Atenolol component: bradycardia
  • fatigue
  • cold extremities
  • hypotension
  • bronchospasm.
  • Combined: dizziness
  • fatigue
  • peripheral oedema.
  • Rare: severe bradycardia
  • heart block
  • worsening heart failure.
Precautions
  • Do not use if allergic to amlodipine
  • atenolol
  • or other beta
  • blockers.
  • Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock
  • decompensated heart failure
  • sick sinus syndrome
  • AV block (2nd or 3rd degree)
  • severe bradycardia
  • and severe bronchial asthma or COPD.
  • Do not stop atenolol abruptly — taper gradually to avoid rebound hypertension or angina.
  • Monitor renal function in patients with renal impairment.
  • Beta
  • blockers may mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients.
  • Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
