Acnotin 10 10 mg

Indication

Used for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne that has not responded to conventional therapy including systemic antibiotics. Isotretinoin is a retinoid (vitamin A derivative) that reduces sebum production, normalises keratinisation, and has anti-inflammatory effects.

Direction

Adults and adolescents: Dose is individualized, typically 0.5–1 mg/kg/day in divided doses. The cumulative dose to achieve remission is usually 120–150 mg/kg. Take with food (high-fat meal improves absorption). Do not crush or chew capsules. Course typically lasts 16–24 weeks.

Side effects

• Very common: dry skin

Precautions

• PREGNANCY PREVENTION PROGRAMME: Isotretinoin is teratogenic — causes severe birth defects. Women of childbearing potential must use two forms of effective contraception for at least 1 month before

• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding — ABSOLUTELY.
• Contraindicated with tetracyclines — increased risk of intracranial hypertension.
• Do not donate blood during treatment and for at least 1 month after stopping.

• Do not use vitamin A supplements concurrently.
• Avoid waxing
