Indication
Fixed-dose combination used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) when monotherapy with either candesartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone is insufficient. Candesartan is an ARB that blocks angiotensin II; hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes sodium and water excretion.
Ingredients
- Candesartan Cilexetil
- Hydrochlorothiazide
Direction
Adults: One tablet (Candesartan 16 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg) once daily. Dose may be adjusted under medical supervision. Take with or without food at the same time each day.
Side effects
- Common: dizziness
- nasopharyngitis
- hypokalaemia.
- Uncommon: hypotension
- renal impairment.
- Rare: angioedema — seek immediate medical attention.
- Hydrochlorothiazide: photosensitivity
- gout exacerbation
- elevated blood glucose.
- Very rare: neutropenia
- agranulocytosis.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in pregnancy — can cause severe fetal injury or death.
- Contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment
- anuria
- refractory hypokalaemia
- and hypercalcaemia.
- Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to candesartan
- hydrochlorothiazide
- or sulfonamides.
- Do not use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
- Monitor electrolytes (potassium
- sodium)
- renal function
- and blood pressure.
- Risk of hypokalaemia (hydrochlorothiazide) and hyperkalaemia (candesartan) — monitor serum potassium.
- Hydrochlorothiazide may worsen diabetes control and raise uric acid (gout risk).
- Photosensitivity reactions reported with hydrochlorothiazide — use sun protection.
- Keep out of reach of children.
