Indication

Amlopin (Amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina pectoris), including chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina. It works by relaxing blood vessels so the heart does not have to work as hard.

Ingredients
  • Amlodipine Besilate
Direction

Adults: The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily based on response. Take with or without food, at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water.

Side effects
  • Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling) — very common.
  • Flushing
  • headache
  • dizziness — common.
  • Fatigue
  • nausea
  • palpitations — common.
  • Abdominal pain
  • somnolence — uncommon.
  • Gingival hyperplasia (rare).
  • Severe hypotension (rare).
Precautions
  • Do not use if allergic to amlodipine or any dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker.
  • Use with caution in patients with severe liver impairment (dose reduction may be needed).
  • Monitor blood pressure regularly during treatment.
  • Avoid abrupt discontinuation.
  • Use with caution in combination with other antihypertensives
  • CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole
  • clarithromycin)
  • or CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampicin).
  • May cause symptomatic hypotension
  • especially in patients with severe aortic stenosis.
  • Caution in elderly patients and those with heart failure.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
