Indication
Allercof Expectorant is a combination syrup used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis and upper respiratory tract infections with productive cough. Cetirizine controls allergic symptoms; bromhexine and guaifenesin thin and loosen mucus; phenylephrine relieves nasal congestion; menthol provides a soothing effect.
Ingredients
- Cetirizine Dihydrochloride
- Bromhexine Hydrochloride
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride
- Guaiphenesin
- Menthol
Direction
Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 3 times daily. Children 6–12 years: 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) 3 times daily. Children 2–6 years: 2.5 ml 3 times daily (as directed by physician). Do not exceed stated dose.
Side effects
- Drowsiness
- sedation — common (due to cetirizine).
- Dry mouth
- headache
- dizziness — common.
- Nausea
- gastrointestinal discomfort — common.
- Increased blood pressure
- palpitations (due to phenylephrine) — uncommon.
- Allergic reactions including rash — rare.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to any of the active ingredients.
- Use with caution in patients with hypertension
- diabetes
- hyperthyroidism
- or cardiovascular disease (due to phenylephrine).
- May cause drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery.
- Avoid alcohol during treatment.
- Use with caution in patients with urinary retention
- glaucoma
- or enlarged prostate.
- Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping MAO inhibitor therapy.
- Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of children.
