Indication
Augmentin 625 mg (Amoxicillin 500 mg + Clavulanic acid 125 mg) is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic used in adults and children (≥40 kg) for the treatment of bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, otitis media, urinary tract infections, and skin/soft tissue infections.

Direction
Adults and children ≥40 kg: One 625 mg tablet every 8 or 12 hours (8-hourly dosing for moderate-severe infections; 12-hourly for mild infections). Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Complete the full prescribed course.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea
- nausea
- vomiting — very common.
- Abdominal pain — common.
- Skin rash
- urticaria — common.
- Candidal overgrowth — common.
- Elevated liver enzymes
- hepatitis — uncommon.
- Anaphylaxis — rare but serious.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to penicillins
- cephalosporins
- or beta
- lactam antibiotics.
- Can cause serious hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis.
- Use with caution in renal impairment — dose interval adjustment required.
- May cause Clostridioides difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- Monitor liver function
- hepatotoxicity reported (especially in older males).
- May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives.
- Keep out of reach of children.
