FLOXIM-200 200mg

Indication

FLOXIM-200 (Cefixime 200 mg) is a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat susceptible bacterial infections including upper and lower respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, acute bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea (uncomplicated), and otitis media.

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years (≥50 kg): 200–400 mg daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Children under 12 years: 8 mg/kg/day in 1–2 divided doses. Duration as directed by physician, typically 5–14 days. Take with or without food. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• abdominal pain — common.
• Headache
• dizziness — uncommon.
• Skin rash
• urticaria — uncommon.
• Candidal overgrowth — uncommon.
• Elevated liver enzymes — uncommon.
• Anaphylaxis — rare.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to cefixime
• other cephalosporins
• or penicillins (cross
• reactivity possible).
• Serious hypersensitivity reactions possible.
• Use with caution in renal impairment — dose reduction required.
• May cause Clostridioides difficile
• associated diarrhoea.
• May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
• Keep out of reach of children.
