Indication
Dexamethasone Medigrow injection (4 mg/mL) is a synthetic corticosteroid used parenterally for the treatment of acute conditions requiring rapid anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive effect, including cerebral oedema, anaphylaxis, severe allergic reactions, asthma exacerbations, croup, septic shock (adjunct), and as anti-emetic prophylaxis in chemotherapy.
Ingredients
- Dexamethasone Phosphate
Direction
Adults: 0.5–9 mg IV or IM per dose depending on indication and severity. Cerebral oedema: 10 mg IV bolus, then 4 mg IM every 6 hours. Doses are highly indication-specific; always follow physician or institution protocol. Adjust dose in the elderly and in renal/hepatic impairment.
Side effects
- Hyperglycaemia.
- Sodium and fluid retention
- hypokalaemia.
- Hypertension.
- Increased infection susceptibility.
- Adrenal suppression.
- Gastrointestinal haemorrhage with high doses.
- Mood changes
- insomnia.
Precautions
- Prolonged use suppresses the HPA axis — taper gradually.
- Increases susceptibility to infections
- may mask signs of infection.
- Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections.
- Use with caution in diabetes
- hypertension
- heart failure
- and osteoporosis.
- Avoid live vaccines during treatment.
- Benzyl alcohol (common preservative in vials) is toxic in neonates.
- Keep out of reach of children.
