Indication
Metformin Denk 850 (Metformin HCl 850 mg) is a biguanide antidiabetic used as first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus to control blood glucose levels. It reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity.
Ingredients
- Metformin HCl
Direction
Adults: 500 mg to 850 mg two or three times daily with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Dose should be titrated gradually. Maximum dose: 3000 mg/day. Swallow tablets whole with plenty of water.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- abdominal pain (especially at start of therapy)
- Loss of appetite
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Lactic acidosis (rare but serious)
- Vitamin B12 deficiency with long
- term use
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m² (severe renal impairment).
- Contraindicated in metabolic acidosis
- including diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Withhold before and 48 hours after iodinated contrast media procedures.
- Risk of lactic acidosis
- especially in renal or hepatic impairment
- seek immediate medical attention for symptoms (muscle pain
- breathing difficulty
- abdominal pain).
- Avoid excessive alcohol intake.
- Monitor renal function regularly.
- Use with caution in elderly patients.
- Keep out of reach of children.
