Indication
GABIX 100 mg (gabapentin) is an anticonvulsant used as adjunctive therapy for partial seizures with or without secondary generalisation in adults and children over 6 years. It is also used for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain (diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia) in adults.

Epilepsy (adults and children over 12 years): Starting dose 300 mg on Day 1, 300 mg twice daily on Day 2, 300 mg three times daily on Day 3. Maintenance: 900–3,600 mg/day in 3 divided doses. Neuropathic pain (adults): 300 mg on Day 1, titrated up to 1,800 mg/day in 3 divided doses. Dose reduction required in renal impairment.
Side effects
- Somnolence
- dizziness
- and fatigue (most common).
- Ataxia and coordination problems.
- Nystagmus.
- Weight gain.
- Peripheral oedema.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Rare: serious skin reactions
- suicidal ideation.
Precautions
- Do not stop abruptly — taper dose to avoid withdrawal seizures.
- May cause somnolence
- dizziness
- and ataxia — do not drive or operate machinery until effects are known.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — dose adjustment required.
- Potential for misuse and dependence has been reported.
- Risk of suicidal ideation — monitor patients
- especially at initiation.
- Avoid use with opioids — increased risk of respiratory depression.
- Keep out of reach of children.
