Indication
Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection (1 g) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use. Indicated for treatment of severe bacterial infections including septicaemia, meningitis, pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, complicated UTIs, pelvic inflammatory disease, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and surgical prophylaxis.
Ingredients
- Ceftriaxone Sodium
Direction
Adults: 1–2 g once daily IV or IM. Meningitis and severe infections: 2–4 g once daily. Children: 50–100 mg/kg/day (max 4 g/day). Administer as directed by a healthcare professional. Reconstitute according to manufacturer instructions.
Side effects
- Injection site pain and phlebitis.
- Diarrhoea
- nausea.
- Skin rash and eosinophilia.
- Biliary sludge.
- Rare: severe allergic reactions
- haemolytic anaemia
- pseudomembranous colitis.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins.
- Cross
- sensitivity with penicillins — use with caution in penicillin
- allergic patients.
- Do not mix with calcium
- containing IV solutions — risk of precipitation.
- Contraindicated in neonates under 28 days with hyperbilirubinaemia or on calcium
- containing IV infusions.
- Monitor renal and hepatic function in prolonged use.
- Monitor for Clostridioides difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- Keep out of reach of children.
