Indication

Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection (1 g) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use. Indicated for treatment of severe bacterial infections including septicaemia, meningitis, pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, complicated UTIs, pelvic inflammatory disease, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and surgical prophylaxis.

Ingredients
  • Ceftriaxone Sodium
Direction

Adults: 1–2 g once daily IV or IM. Meningitis and severe infections: 2–4 g once daily. Children: 50–100 mg/kg/day (max 4 g/day). Administer as directed by a healthcare professional. Reconstitute according to manufacturer instructions.

Side effects
  • Injection site pain and phlebitis.
  • Diarrhoea
  • nausea.
  • Skin rash and eosinophilia.
  • Biliary sludge.
  • Rare: severe allergic reactions
  • haemolytic anaemia
  • pseudomembranous colitis.
Precautions
  • Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins.
  • Cross
  • sensitivity with penicillins — use with caution in penicillin
  • allergic patients.
  • Do not mix with calcium
  • containing IV solutions — risk of precipitation.
  • Contraindicated in neonates under 28 days with hyperbilirubinaemia or on calcium
  • containing IV infusions.
  • Monitor renal and hepatic function in prolonged use.
  • Monitor for Clostridioides difficile
  • associated diarrhoea.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
