Clamide 5 mg

Indication

Used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise when diet alone is insufficient to control blood glucose.

Ingredients

• Glibenclamide

Direction

Adults: Initial dose of 2.5–5 mg once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Dose may be increased by 2.5 mg increments at weekly intervals. Usual maintenance dose: 5–10 mg daily. Maximum dose: 15–20 mg daily. Take with food to reduce risk of hypoglycemia.

Side effects

• Common: hypoglycemia.
• Gastrointestinal: nausea
• fullness
• heartburn.
• Rare: blood disorders (agranulocytosis
• thrombocytopenia).
• Rare: cholestatic jaundice
• hepatitis.
• Rare: skin reactions (photosensitivity
• rash).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes
• diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Contraindicated in severe renal
• hepatic
• or adrenal insufficiency.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy.
• Risk of hypoglycemia
• particularly in the elderly
• debilitated
• or malnourished patients.
• Alcohol may potentiate hypoglycemic effect.
• Cross
• sensitivity possible with sulfonamides.
• Keep out of reach of children.
