Gentamicin Injection 80mg/2ml

Indication

Used by injection for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible gram-negative organisms, including septicemia, meningitis, urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and bone and joint infections.

Ingredients

• Gentamicin Sulfate

Direction

Adults: 3–5 mg/kg/day by IM or slow IV injection in divided doses every 8 hours, or as a once-daily dose. Duration and dose adjusted based on renal function and serum drug levels. Children: weight-based dosing under medical supervision.

Side effects

• Nephrotoxicity: elevated creatinine
• proteinuria
• oliguria.
• Ototoxicity: irreversible hearing loss
• vestibular dysfunction.
• Neuromuscular blockade with high doses.
• Local: pain and induration at injection site.

Precautions

• Nephrotoxic and ototoxic
• monitor renal function and serum gentamicin levels.
• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides.
• Avoid concomitant use with other nephrotoxic agents (vancomycin
• loop diuretics
• amphotericin B).
• Monitor for signs of ototoxicity (hearing loss
• tinnitus
• vertigo).
• Use with extreme caution in renal impairment

• Not recommended for prolonged systemic use.
• Keep out of reach of children.
