Duphalac 667 mg/ml

Indication

An osmotic laxative used for the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy. It softens stool by drawing water into the bowel.

Ingredients

• Lactulose

Direction

Adults for constipation: 15–30 mL once or twice daily, adjusted to produce 2 soft stools per day. Children: dose by age as directed by physician. May be diluted in water or fruit juice.

Side effects

• Flatulence and bloating (especially initially).
• Abdominal cramps.
• Nausea.
• Diarrhoea with excessive doses.
• Electrolyte disturbances with prolonged high
• dose use.

Precautions

• Not for use in patients with galactosaemia.
• Use with caution in patients who are lactose intolerant.
• May cause excessive gas or cramping initially.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Consult a physician if no effect after 2 days.
