Indication

Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is used to treat and prevent dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp. Also used for tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor).

Direction

For dandruff/seborrhoeic dermatitis: Apply to wet hair, lather, leave for 3–5 minutes, then rinse. Use twice weekly for 2–4 weeks, then once every 1–2 weeks to prevent recurrence. For tinea versicolor: Apply once daily for 5 days.

Side effects

• Dry scalp
• oily or dry hair.
• Abnormal hair texture.
• Scalp pustules.
• Contact dermatitis (rare).
• Hair loss (rare).

Precautions

• For external use only.
• Avoid contact with eyes
• if contact occurs
• rinse thoroughly with water.
• Do not use on inflamed or broken skin.
• Discontinue if skin irritation or hypersensitivity occurs.
• Not recommended for children under 12 years without medical advice.
• Do not use with other topical corticosteroids on the same area without medical advice.
