Indication

Aciclovir 5% cream is an antiviral used for the treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis) caused by Herpes simplex virus (HSV). It reduces the duration and severity of outbreaks.

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years: Apply a thin layer to the affected area 5 times daily (approximately every 4 hours) for 5–10 days. Start treatment at the first sign of a cold sore (tingling, itching, or redness). Wash hands before and after application.

Side effects

• Transient burning

• or itching at the application site.
• Dryness or flaking of skin.
• Contact dermatitis (rare).
• Erythema.

Precautions

• For external use only.
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Not for use inside the mouth or near the eyes.
• Do not apply to normal skin or lips.
• Immunocompromised patients should seek medical advice.
• Discontinue if hypersensitivity reaction occurs.
• Not recommended for children under 12 years without medical advice.
